ZADAR, Nov 29 (Hina) - Mine fields in Croatia cover a total of about 4,000 square kilometres which, we presume, contains about a million mines, head of the Croatian Mine Centre (HCR), Damir Gorseta, said Zadar on Thursday during a
seminar about anti-mine actions organised for representatives of local self-government and reporters from four Dalmatian counties. The seminar was organised by the HCR and the US Agency for International Development (USAID). Gorseta recalled that 14 Croatian counties were faced with mines, with Zadar County being the most polluted. This poses a threat to Croatian citizens, great losses in the economy and a threat to the development of the country, Gorseta said. The government has planned to complete the mine-clearing project by the end of 2010, for which an enormous amount of funds are necessary, he said.
