ZAGREB/BRUSSELS, Nov 19 (Hina) - The European Commission (EC) has allocated EUR500,000 in assistance for the upcoming winter for returnees in Macedonia, the EC said on Monday. The return of many to their homes in previously
conflict-affected areas is encouraging, the Commission said, adding the assistance would be distributed in the next few weeks. It is, however, unlikely that many people displaced within Macedonia and refugees accommodated in Kosovo will return to their homes before the spring. The EC assistance in firewood will be complemented by the European Union's office for humanitarian aid, which will provide food, medical material, and help in the reconstruction of schools. The EC is also implementing a house reconstruction programme. In 2001, EUR4.9 million have been allocated for Macedonia. Another EUR1.5 million has been donated for Macedonian refugees in Kosovo.(hina) ha
