ZAGREB, Nov 14 (Hina) - It would be better for the Croatian nation if
the government was nervous because of the current social situation
rather than about the social message of the Croatian episcopate,
reads a commentary, "Why Is the Government Nervous?", published in
the latest issue of the Catholic weekly 'Glas Koncila'.
With its statement of November 10, in which it expressed its
surprise with "the intensity, superficiality and partiality of
stands presented" in the message of the Croatian bishops, the
government has "demonstrated a very high degree of nervousness,
panic even," although the bishops' message "objectively does not
contain any harsh words or radical stands," says the weekly.
"The reason the bishops wrote their social message was not a desire
to oppose the incumbent government or favour any political option,
but warn about the need to pay more attention to social justice and
solidarity, and create living conditions worthy of all citizens of
our country," the weekly says.
"If the Government really believes the facts and stands presented
in the bishops' message need arguments," one cannot but conclude
that it "is not living in the present society and experiencing what
most Croatian citizens are experiencing, but living in an
artificial world of its own."
