MOSTAR, Nov 13 (Hina) - The United States aims at making Bosnia-
Herzegovina a multiethnic society, as it used to be before the war,
the newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to Bosnia, Clifford Bond, said
in the southern town of Mostar on Tuesday.
This statement shows that Bond is dismissing the expectations of
some Croat structures in Mostar that the current U.S. policy in
Bosnia, which has supported an integral Bosnia-Herzegovina, could
change after the arrival of the new ambassador.
Mostar is the first town in Bosnia that Bond has officially visited
after arriving in Sarajevo.
Bond supported the Mostar town authorities, led by mayor Neven
Tomic. Recently the Croatian Democratic Union of Bosnia-
Herzegovina ousted Tomic from the party criticising him for failing
to implement the party's policy. The local HDZ organisation in
Mostar had been announcing it would request that Tomic be relieved
of his duty.
Bond promised the United States Agency for International
Development (USAID) would continue to financially assist Mostar,
particularly in the reconstruction of the infrastructure.
