ZAGREB, Nov 2 (Hina) - A joint Croatian and US military exercise is in the preparation stage and the public will be informed about its start in time, Defence Ministry's spokesperson, Colonel Dusan Viro, said Friday. According to
reports in some Croatian newspaper, a joint Croatian-US military exercise began in Split today and should last until November 15. Viro said the exercise was planned a year ago within the framework of the Croatia-US cooperation. It will be held both on mainland and at sea, but with lesser manpower than had been planned. However, Viro did not specify the exact number of participants. Viro refused to comment on articles in the media regarding programmes and activities of the joint exercise. According to the articles, the "Phiblex 2001" exercise should have started today in Split. Croatian Army soldiers and US special forces will engage in seaborne attack.(hina) np
