ZAGREB, Nov 12 (Hina) - It is most probably correct that Baxter's
dialysers could account for unexplained recent hemodialysis deaths
reported in Croatia and other countries, but before assuming full
responsibility we need to wait until the end of the investigation,
spokeswoman for Baxter Patricia O'Hayer said on Monday.#L#
Commenting on the statement of a Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
top official who expressed belief that Baxter's dialysers were
connected with the deaths, O'Hayer told Hina over the phone this was
most probably correct, but before assuming full responsibility
Baxter would like to wait until the end of the investigation.
She told Hina no charges were filed against the company for now, and
on behalf of Baxter, the spokeswoman expressed belief that all
possible law suits would be settled out of court.
Baxter believes approximately $100-$150 million will be needed to
cover the cost of discontinuing this product line and other related
costs.
Croatia is still investigating the deaths of 23 patients who died
while undergoing hemodialysis in October.
