ANKARA, Oct 22 (Hina) - Turkey suggested on Monday that it be the host of a joint meeting of the European Union and the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC), which would promote a joint fight against the biggest danger of the
21st century - terrorism. Turkish Foreign Minister Ismail Cem said the proposal that the meeting of the West and the East be held in Istanbul had met with unexpectedly good reactions among all interested parties. The Bosporus could link and not separate the Islamic world and the West in the future, he said. The Istanbul meeting would be attended by all countries aspiring to become full EU members. Turkey, which has the second largest army in NATO, has expressed readiness to, under certain conditions, send its elite units to Afghanistan as part of UN peace forces from Islamic countries.(hina) sb rml
