OSIJEK, Sept 28 (Hina) - Representatives of about 20 municipalities and towns in Croatia, Bosnia, Yugoslavia, Macedonia, and Albania gathered in the eastern town of Osijek on Friday for a meeting of the Civic Pact for Southeastern
Europe. The meeting addresses the financing of units of local self-government as it has been assessed the way they are financed is closely connected with the degree of their independence. The Pact, which includes non-governmental organisations and local self-government units committed to regional civic cooperation, was established in the summer of 2000 in reaction to the signing of the Stability Pact for Southeastern Europe. The Pact has 58 members and is supported by the Interchurch Peace Council from The Hague and two Dutch international agencies for development, NOVIB and HIVOS.(hina) ha sb
