ZAGREB, Oct 17 (Hina) - The tragic death of 21 kidney patients during treatment in haemodialysis centres pointed to the fact that Croatia's health care sector had no adequate information system when some events may threaten the health
of a large number of people. In Croatia there is a legal obligation binding health care institutions to inform the national Health Care Institute about all sudden suspicious deaths, but there is no way for processing those data in order to establish in the shortest possible time whether it is a case of an epidemic or other kinds of threats to patients' health, said the head of a project for the reform in the health system, Dr. Stipe Oreskovic. The World Bank has approved three (3) million US dollars for the reform of Croatia's health care with the aim of improving the information structure in this sector, Oreskovic told Hina on Wednesday.(hina) ms
