MEDJIMURJE COUNTY ASSEMBLY DISCUSSES AGREEMENT WITH SLOVENIA

CAKOVEC, Aug 30 (Hina) - Medjimurje County councilmen today discussed the agreement between Croatia and Slovenia about the joint state border, concluding the agreement does not sufficiently protect Croatia's and Medjimurje's interests regarding the amount of the swapped territorial area and the quality of the land being involved in the swap. They requested a review and changes, so the county area would not be reduced by 50 hectares. The government is asked to carry out measures of an expedited economic growth of bordering towns and municipalities which have suffered through the loss of good land and other income. Head of the parliament's committee for foreign affairs, Zdravko Tomac said it is possible to alleviate the obvious mistakes with the Slovene side. He added that on behalf of the government, he has been authorised to announce assistance to the economic development of the Sveti Martin municipality
