WORLD BANK APPROVES 35 MILLION LOAN TO MACEDONIA

WASHINGTON, Sept 14 (Hina) - The World Bank approved a $35 million interest-free special-purpose loan to Macedonia Thursday. "This is to ensure Macedonia financial and technical support to overcome the effects of the conflict," the Bank's regional coordinator for south-eastern Europe, Christiaan Poortman, said. The international community, especially the European Union, must set up a flow of donor funds to speed up reforms in Macedonia, he believes. The loan will be paid in the year 2002, and the World Bank also developed a special strategy of transitional help to Macedonia until the general elections and the constitution of the new government.(hina) js
