ZAGREB, Sept 6 (Hina) - The Sisak branch of the UHVDR association of Homeland War veterans has protested against "Stjepan Komarac's reiterated false claims which smear Croatian heroes and accuse them of alleged war crimes in Sisak."
"We who defended Sisak resolutely state the crimes Stjepan Komarac speaks about did not take place, and that there were only innocent Croatian victims and a heroic resistance," the association said on Thursday in a statement signed by branch president Dubravko Habulin. Komarac heads a little known association for the protection of human rights and return. He has been speaking about alledged killings in Sisak, a town 50 km southeast of Zagreb, for several years. According to the media, he said more than 500 people were killed there in 1991-5. He later said the figure was smaller, telling CNN only around 20 Croatian Serb Sisak residents were actually killed.(hina) ha sb
