MOSTAR, Aug 30 (Hina) - Bosnian Croat leader Ante Jelavic expects the Sarajevo cantonal court will discontinue an investigation of him and six of his associates who have been accused of undermining Bosnia-Herzegovina's territorial
integrity. Jelavic, the president of Bosnia's Croat National Congress and Croatian Democratic Union party, on Wednesday appeared before the Sarajevo court for the first hearing. The next has been scheduled for Sept. 17. "Due to the many incriminations against myself I did not have time to prepare a defence," Jelavic told a local television station in Mostar on Thursday. He reiterated several times the case against him was a rigged political process which he hopes "will be stopped in time." "Those who organised this rigged prosecution have abandoned the idea of arrests as they are aware of the consequences," he said. "I was ready for every outcome, even detention," Jelavic said
MOSTAR, Aug 30 (Hina) - Bosnian Croat leader Ante Jelavic expects
the Sarajevo cantonal court will discontinue an investigation of
him and six of his associates who have been accused of undermining
Bosnia-Herzegovina's territorial integrity.
Jelavic, the president of Bosnia's Croat National Congress and
Croatian Democratic Union party, on Wednesday appeared before the
Sarajevo court for the first hearing. The next has been scheduled
for Sept. 17.
"Due to the many incriminations against myself I did not have time
to prepare a defence," Jelavic told a local television station in
Mostar on Thursday.
He reiterated several times the case against him was a rigged
political process which he hopes "will be stopped in time."
"Those who organised this rigged prosecution have abandoned the
idea of arrests as they are aware of the consequences," he said.
"I was ready for every outcome, even detention," Jelavic said,
adding he was being threatened with arrest "as if I were a war
criminal."
He asserted many wished for him not to appear at the first hearing,
creating a climate for his retreat, with associates, to Croatian
territory.
"By appearing at the first hearing I have shown that I am a legalist,
that I recognise Bosnia-Herzegovina's institutions, but I do not
recognise this protectorate," the Bosnian Croat said.
