cantonal court has summoned the president of Bosnia's Croat
National Congress, Ante Jelavic, for a Aug. 29 hearing, Jelavic's
Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ BH) party said on Friday.
Late in July, the Sarajevo cantonal prosecutor's office requested
an investigation into Jelavic and six of his associates who have
been charged with undermining Bosnia-Herzegovina's territorial
integrity through their political activity.
The HDZ BH today was unable to officially confirm if Jelavic would
appear at the Aug. 29 hearing.
The party's benches at the state and federal parliaments today
issued a joint statement expressing their outrage at the
investigation into six Bosnian Croat officials, which they
describe as a rigged political trial launched "under pressure from
the illegitimate authority of the Alliance for Changes and part of
the international community" with the aim to discourage the Bosnian
Croat people.
The HDZ BH benches call on "all international organisations and
institutions for the protection of human rights to protect the
freedom of speech, the freedom of political opinion and organising,
and to condemn and prevent the political and criminal prosecution
on political and national grounds."
