LJUBLJANA, Aug 29 (Hina) - The joint shooting exercise Slovenes and Americans performed in the Adriatic's international waters on Tuesday does not seem the most logical step even to some politicians in Slovenia's coastal area, Delo
daily said on Wednesday. "Slovenia's sea is too small for such exercises, and shooting live ammunition in a real war situation would represent a frontal conflict with the enemy that is tantamount to suicide, which is why our navy would never carry it out," Aurelio Juri, former Kopar mayor and now an MP, told the Ljubljana-based daily. Juri is known to oppose the establishment of a NATO logistic base in Kopar. He maintains it disrupts the tourist and business image of the seaport. Today the United States and Slovene navies should resume the exercise with a sea rescue operation. Slovene army captain Matjaz Bizjak declined to comment on protests against and reservations towards the exercise
