near Bjelovar in 1991 are for now standing mute, and the first and
fourth suspects, Luka Markesic and Ivan Orlovic, have pleaded not
guilty, their defence attorney Gordana Grubesa told reporters
today.
Retired special police unit employee, Ivan Orlovic, turned himself
in this morning at the county penitentiary in Bjelovar.
Orlovic is suspected of having, together with the former police
assistant commissioner, Luka Markesic, and two former police
officers Zdenko Radic and Zoran Maras, of having shot to death six
imprisoned members of the then Yugoslav People's army, and heavily
wounded a civilian in a forest near Bjelovar in 1991.
Orlovic and the three others, arrested earlier, stood mute before
the investigative judge today.
Orlovic was on vacation at the seaside when he heard of being
involved in "some criminal proceedings", Grubesa asserted.
Both Orlovic and Markesic have claimed their innocence.
Pursuant to an investigation, the court should decide whether to
issue indictments or to dismiss the case.
