PRISTINA, Aug 27 (Hina) - Several hundred refugees from Macedonia, who were accommodated in the area of Prizren in southern Kosovo, have returned to Macedonia of their own accord, the Kosovo Force (KFOR) reported on Monday. Although
they have been advised by the UNHCR to wait for organised returns, a large number of refugees have returned of their own accord, said KFOR spokesman for Sector South, Major Karl Elsweiler. At least 500 Macedonian refugees, accommodated in Prizren, returned to Macedonia this weekend alone, he said. The KFOR has reported that 1,500 people have returned from Kosovo to Macedonia via Mt Sara and other mountain routes despite warnings that many areas along the Macedonian-Kosovo border were mined. Of the 74,000 refugees from Macedonia who found shelter in Kosovo, at least 24,000 have returned to Macedonia, according to incomplete information of humanitarian organisations in Kosovo.(hina) rml
