ZAGREB, Aug 16 (Hina) - The Croatia police chief superintendent,
Ranko Ostojic, was quoted by the Croatian Television as saying that
the Interior Ministry's internal control found many irregularities
in the decision making about who of police officers should remain
employed and who should be made available to the government.
Those who have allowed such wrong-doing will suffer the
consequences, he asserted.
Regarding the fact that the Interior Ministry has handed over
30,000 papers with new decisions (about employment), the mistakes
are possible, Ostojic said after his closed-door meeting with local
police in the town of Bjelovar where the number of irregularities
was rather high. He promised that crime police would be engaged in
the clarification of such cases.
Ostojic also reiterated that each police officer, made available to
the government as surplus work force, would again get job, mostly in
the Interior Ministry, if they had proper documents on training and
adequate school degree.
Several dozen such officers can expect new jobs in the border police
on in the ministry's intervention units as of 1 September.
Ostojic visited Bjelovar where surplus police officers have been
protesting since they last week received papers reading that they
are made available to the government. During their protest they
insist on the revision of the papers and warn that there are many
irregularities in the decision-making. Last Thursday Osojic
visited protesters in Bjelovar and then promised to come again with
answers to their complaints. After today's meeting with Ostojic
they said they would continue protesting peacefully until the final
settlement of all cases.
Surplus police officers in other towns and regions also express
their disagreement with such decisions of the police chief command
and the ministry.
