CRO JUDGES: AVAILABLE POLICE MAY BE EMPLOYED IN COURTS' SECURITY

ZAGREB, Aug 16 (Hina) - The Croatian Judges' Association (UHS) proposes that 1,200 police officers, who have recently been made available to the government as a surplus work force, can be employed in the security of court officials, assets and facilities and other judicial bodies. The association on Thursday issued a statement blaming the authorities for failing to do anything concrete in ensuring better security conditions of courts. In this context it recalls the September 1999 massacre at a Zagreb municipal court when a client, her lawyer, and a judge were killed. The association complains that nothing has been done since that tragic event, and believes that there is now a possibility to settle two problems by one move: find new jobs for available police officers and improve the security of courts. The association adds that this is not an arbitrary assessment of its own but such estimate
