PRISTINA, Aug 13 (Hina) - International peace forces in Kosovo on
Sunday dismissed claims by senior Macedonian state officials,
including Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski, saying members of
the Kosovo Protection Corps attacked Macedonian forces from the
Kosovo village of Krivenik.
Kosovo Force (KFOR) officials dismissed accusations saying no
attack on Macedonian forces whatsoever had been carried out from
Kosovo.
KFOR spokesman Howard Rhoades said yesterday evening the claims of
the Macedonian leadership would be carefully considered but he was
certain KFOR could prove none of yesterday's conflicts in Macedonia
had been caused from Kosovo.
KFOR has destroyed huge amounts of weapons confiscated in the area
bordering with Macedonia in an operation carried out along the
border between Kosovo, Macedonia and Albania and arrested at least
400 people along the Macedonian-Albanian border since early June,
he said.
A senior official of the Kosovo Protection Corps, a Kosovo Albanian
organisation, told Kosovo Television yesterday the accusations
were aimed at internationalising Macedonia's internal problems and
accusing Kosovo of causing them. The accusations are false and
aimed at compromising the Kosovo Protection Force, said Arif
Muqoli.
