RATIONALISATION OF SOCIAL EXPENSES WON'T REDUCE THEM - MINISTER

VUKOVAR, Aug 5 (Hina) - Labour and Welfare Minister Davorko Vidovic told Hina on Sunday a rationalisation of social expenses, announced for the autumn, did not mean they would be reduced. "In the past year not one social benefit has been reduced. Quite the contrary," he said in the eastern town of Vukovar, adding social expenses rose by 3.5 billion kuna since the incumbent government stepped into office in January 2000. The government has ensured 2.3 billion kuna to increase pensions by 20 percent for 700,000 beneficiaries, and another billion for child's allowance, said Vidovic. "What we intend to do this autumn is rationalisation... corrections in all possible places, which in part will affect social expenses," he explained. Such corrections will result in redistribution, so that those who have more will give more and those with less will not have their entitlements impinged upon but expanded, the minister
