Former Croatian Serb rebel leader Hadzic last fugitive wanted by ICTY

THE HAGUE, May 26 (Hina) - Of the 161 people indicted by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), only wartime Croatian Serb leader Goran Hadzic remains at large after the apprehension of Ratko Mladic, a former Bosnian Serb military commander, in Serbia on Thursday morning.

Goran Hadzic, 52, a former premier of the self-proclaimed Republic of Serb Krajina, a statelet set up by rebel Serbs on the occupied areas of Croatia in early 1990s , is indicted on 14 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity and violations of war customs and laws.

He disappeared from his home soon after the Hague tribunal issued an indictment against him in July 2004 and has been on the run since then.

He is charged with murder and deportation of thousands of Croats and other non-Serbs. He is also held responsible for the atrocities in Vukovar and the killing of 250 Croats at Ovcara after Serb rebels entered that eastern Croatian city in November 1991.
