Memorial plaque to be unveiled in tribute to Russian reporters killed in Homeland War

SISAK, May 19 (Hina) - A memorial plaque in tribute to Russian reporters -- Viktor Nogin and Gennady Kurennoi -- who died while reporting from combat zones in Croatia on 1 September 1991, will be unveiled in Panjani near Hrvatska Kostajnica, Croatian war veterans reported in Sisak, 50 kilometres southeast of Zagreb, on Thursday.

The memorial plaque includes inscriptions in Croatian and Russian in tribute to the Russian reporter Nogin and cameraman Kurennoi, whose son Ivan will unveil the plaque.

According to Croatian war veterans from Hrvatska Kostajnica, the two Russians were killed by Serb insurgents.

Reporter Vladimir Mukusev, who used to be a deputy to the supreme council of the Russian Federation from 1990 to 1993 and the chairman of the Russian parliament's commission of inquiry that investigated the death of Nogin and Kurennoi, said at the news conference in Sisak that a Russian delegation visited the Kostajnica area in late 1995 and established that the Russian reporters had been killed by the Serbs on 1 September 1991.

Saturday's ceremony is being organised by the UHDDR war veteran association in Kostajnica.
