TWO MONTHS AFTER POLLS 13 TOWNS, MUNICIPALITIES WITHOUT AUTHORITIES

ZAGREB, July 21 (Hina) - Local authorities have not been constituted in four towns and 13 municipalities in which elections were held on May 20, the Ministry of Justice, Government, and Local Self-government said on Saturday. Moreover, three municipalities and one town in which authorities have been constituted have not yet elected a municipal head or mayor, including Dubrovnik in the southern Adriatic, which is to get a government commissioner and go to the polls again. Two months after elections, local authorities have been constituted in most of the 545 units of local self-government. There are, however, about 20 in which the government might appoint a commissioner, in which case new polls should be held within 60 days. Government commissioners will be appointed if local authorities are not constituted within 90 days after the proclamation of electoral results, namely before August 23, when the government is set to meet after the summer recess. The government will appoint a commissioner for Dubrovnik before leaving for the summer break on July 23.
