SARAJEVO, July 9 (Hina) - The head of the OSCE (Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe) Mission to Bosnia-Herzegovina, Robert Beecroft, said on Monday the odds that the OSCE carry out elections in the country again were
non-existent, and called on local political leaders to show more practical responsibility and ensure the adoption of a permanent electoral law. Addressing journalists in Sarajevo, Beecroft said he could only confirm what had already been stated. The OSCE will no longer organise but rather help local authorities to carry out the elections, he told reporters in his first address since taking up his office as OSCE Mission head in mid-June. He repeated the general elections scheduled for 2002 were possible only if the parliament adopted a permanent electoral law as soon as possible.
