COURT ASKS POLICE TO TAKE FURTHER ACTIVITIES IN ARRESTING ICTY INDICTEE

ZAGREB, July 20 (Hina) - Police have failed to arrest a Hague tribunal indictee, after whom an arrest warrant was issued last week, therefore a Zagreb County Court investigating judge issued a new warrant asking the police to take further measures, Zagreb County Court said in a statement Friday. Zagreb County Court Vice President Damir Kos did not go in detail about the measures. When asked whether the Court had put the indictee on a wanted list, Kos declined to go in detail. "They are operative measures and we can not reveal them in the interest of the implementation of the arrest warrant," Kos said. "They are operative measures and we can not reveal them in the interest of the implementation of the arrest warrant," Kos said. According to the statement, the judge ordered the police to take further activities in order to ensure that the indictee appears before the court with as little repression as possible. The court reminded that the arrest warrant had been issued on the basis of a confirmed sealed indictment and in line with a Constitutional law on cooperation with the ICTY. The statement read that the crimes the ICTY indictee is charged with are included in Articles 3 and 5 of the ICTY Statute, namely the violation of the war laws and customs and crimes against humanity. Even though the indictment has not yet been made public, media speculate the indictment had been issued against retired general Ante Gotovina. Prime Minister Ivica Racan indirectly confirmed the information. (hina) it
