forwarded a letter of attorney to Zagreb lawyer Cedo Prodanovic
authorising Prodanovic to represent him before the ICTY, although
it has not yet confirmed that Ademi is one of the two suspects named
in two sealed indictments served to Croatian authorities by the UN
war crimes court.
"The general signed the letter of attorney this afternoon,"
Prodanovic told Hina adding that Ademi was in Zagreb and was
awaiting the summons of a court.
The lawyer expects that his client will probably be called for the
questioning by an investigating judge of the County Court in
Zagreb.
According to the media speculation, Ademi is accused of crimes
allegedly committed in the 1993 operation in the pocket of Medak.
On Monday Premier Ivica Racan said Ademi was willing to turn himself
in to the Hague voluntarily and that the Croatian government would
help him in the defence. In this context, Racan blamed the former
authorities for the ban they imposed on Ademi not allowing him to
answer some questions which the Tribunal wanted to ask him, saying
that thus they had caused damage both to Croatia and this general.
The second indictee in the sealed indictment is the retired general
Ante Gotovina, according to the media.
In May 1998, the Tribunal forwarded a request to the then HDZ
government for the talks with Gotovina about the circumstances
prior to, during and in the wake of the 1995 'Storm' operation.
The position of the then authorities was that the UN war crimes
court had no jurisdiction over then operation and Gotovina held no
talks with ICTY representatives.
