ZAGREB, July 17 (Hina) - Chief State Prosecutor Radovan Ortynski took an oath before Parliament Speaker Zlatko Tomcic on Tuesday. Ortynski was elected to the post by parliament in February this year. The Chief State Prosecutor was
nominated by the government and his nomination was supported by the parliamentary Committee on Judiciary. Ortynski could not take his oath earlier because the Law on the State Prosecutor's Office, which regulates his appointment, was not adopted. Upon the adoption of the law, Ortynski's oath-taking was scheduled for late June, but the Parliament Speaker postponed it after Ortynski made a statement about corruption in the judiciary. Supreme Court President Ivica Crnic requested that the government consider initiating disciplinary proceedings against Ortynski after which Ortynski apologised to Croatian judges and made his mandate available.
