ZAGREB, July 6 (Hina) - By pointing out the existence of corruption
only within the justice system and by failing to hold government
members and the chief state prosecutor responsible for public
utterances, the government is loosing its credibility and
undermining confidence in the system, while the system which is no
longer believed in, will fall apart like a house of cards, president
of the Croatian Judges' Association, Vladimir Gredelj, said.
He told a news conference today the government was expected not to
hold chief state prosecutor Radovan Ortynski accountable. He
recalled the association's negative stances surrounding the
"Ortynski case", on the decrease of judges' salaries and the
election of the State Judicial Council.
He said Ortynski most certainly would have been "thrown out" of the
state prosecutor's office had he said he "cannot deal with
organised crime because its chief organisers are sitting in the
government, the crown evidence being the decision on the sale of a
part of the Croatian Telecom for a ridiculous price."
