ZAGREB, July 10 (Hina) - Croatia's public sector expenditure for wages accounts for almost 12 percent of Gross Domestic Product, which is twice the average in the region's other countries in transition. Given that the number of
employed persons does not depart from the region's average, wage expenses must be decreased, namely wages must remain frozen, the number of employed persons must be decreased in part, and wage raises in the public sector must be controlled. This was one of the messages regarding the decrease of budgetary expenditure from a draft study made by a World Bank team of experts in cooperation with domestic experts. The study addresses the establishment of fiscal sustainability and increased efficiency in Croatia and analyses public expenditure and budgetary institutions.
