ZAGREB, June 25 (Hina) - The Croatian Customs Union announced today it will organised a "white strike" in the midst of the tourist season because of the decrease in salaries of customs officials. In the zenith of the tourist season,
customs officials will be examining every vehicle, passenger and package crossing the border, which will create a "queue to Vienna", union officials told a news conference. Due to a government decree on salary coefficients and the annulment of a special bonus, the salaries of 80 percent of customs officials fell below the state average. The union requested the government to restore the salary bonuses of 20 percent, review the coefficient, sign a collective branch agreement, secure promotions in the profession, and separate the customs administration from the Finance Ministry so it could function independently. it will organised a "white strike" in the midst of the tourist
season because of the decrease in salaries of customs officials.
In the zenith of the tourist season, customs officials will be
examining every vehicle, passenger and package crossing the
border, which will create a "queue to Vienna", union officials told
a news conference.
Due to a government decree on salary coefficients and the annulment
of a special bonus, the salaries of 80 percent of customs officials
fell below the state average.
The union requested the government to restore the salary bonuses of
20 percent, review the coefficient, sign a collective branch
agreement, secure promotions in the profession, and separate the
customs administration from the Finance Ministry so it could
function independently.
If the government does not voice its decision on the requests within
eight days, the union will organise a one-day strike of warning,
after which it will be staging protests in waves (every few days)
until their demands are met.
Customs officials will be joined by border police in the strike, the
Croatian Police Union asserted.
