Seven kids from a local theatre declared the festival opened.
At last night's ceremony, Zdravko Jelenovic, the envoy of Croatian
president Stjepan Mesic, under whose auspices the festival is being
held this year, addressed the gathered.
He congratulated Sibenik and its citizens on succeeding in holding
the children's festival for 41 years and organising it even in the
war years when the festival was held in subbasements and shelters.
This year's festival, which will take 15 days, has drawn about 950
participants from Croatia, Japan, Brazil, Poland, Cameroon,
France, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Slovenia.
They will perform over 100 programmes.
About 400 kids will also take part in 14 workshops.
