WASHINGTON, June 4 (Hina) - Following Monday's talks with senior
officials at the US Small Businesses Administration (SBA),
Croatia's Minister of Crafts and Small and Medium Businesses,
Zeljko Pecek, said the US programmes for the stimulation of
entrepreneurship were very similar to Croatia's.
Contrary to what many believe, US business people, from Bill Gates
to a house-painter from Yuma, enjoy significant support and
assistance from the authorities on all levels, especially when they
do business with foreign countries.
Pecek suggested to SBA representatives to investigate the
possibility of hiring experienced US business people who would
help, as advisors, Croatian companies experiencing an increased
development.
Pecek is also to meet officials at the US Chamber of Commerce to
discuss a project the US intends to launch in Croatia this
September. According to Mark van Fleet, this biggest business
association in the world, with more than 10 million members, wants
to cooperate with Croatian companies through its branch offices and
eventually find suitable business partners with the help of the
Croatian Chamber of Commerce.
Pecek says this will not only make Croatia the first European
country to have such a programme with the US but strengthen small
and medium businesses in the country.
Last weekend, Pecek attended the annual assembly of the National
Federation of Croatian Americans. He informed the conference about
Croatia's programmes of economic development, particularly about
investment possibilities in tourism and this year's 300 small and
medium business projects seeking foreign investors.
