WASHINGTON/LOS ANGELES, June 16 (Hina) - Radoslav Zivkovic, one among many people in the world whose life was changed permanently in an explosion of an anti-infantry mine, received an award at a charity dinner in Los Angeles for his
dedicated work in demining campaigns in Croatia. The dinner was organised by the U.N. campaign Adopt A Minefield, which is headed by Paul McCartney and Heather Mills. More than 800 guests bought tickets for the event which took place at the Regent Beverly Wilshire hotel and gave additional donations. It is expected the funds raised at this event will amount to about one million US dollars, to be used for demining programmes in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Afghanistan, Cambodia and Mozambique. Radoslav Zivkovic, a mine removal expert who was wounded while
trying to help his colleague who stepped on a mine, received a
special award.
Attending the event along with Hollywood stars was a number of
diplomats and public and political figures, including the head of
the United Nations Association of the USA, William Luers, Donald
Steinberg, the US President's special envoy for demining, Heidi
Kuhn, president of the "Roots of Peace" association, Croatian
Ambassador Ivan Grdesic, and Croatia's general consul to Los
Angeles, Miso Munivrana.
