SKOPLJE: MEETING OF GOVERNMENT OF NATIONAL UNITY CONTINUED

SKOPLJE, June 16 (Hina) - The leaders of four parties making up Macedonia's government of national unity and Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski on Saturday resumed a closed-door meeting which, according to the media, should be wrapped up this evening. The meeting focuses on a set of political reforms Trajkovski has suggested as a response to demands of the Albanian community in Macedonia. Albanian guerrillas, who declared a truce to last until June 27, are waiting to see which role NATO will assume following their request that NATO deploy its forces in Macedonia. Diplomats expect that NATO will accept a formal request by the Macedonian government to help it disarm the rebels if the Albanians agree to the conditions which are being defined at the Skoplje meeting. The situation in Macedonia's crisis regions was relatively calm on Saturday, said Macedonian Army spokesman Blagoja Markovski. He said that Macedonian positions in the area of Tetovo and Aracinovo came under attack on the night between Friday and Saturday. Occasional firing was also reported in the villages of the Kumanovo municipality, where Albanian guerrillas regrouped and tried to break out of encirclement in the village of Slupcane. (hina) rml
