PRESIDENT MESIC REFUSES TO COMMENT POSSIBILITY OF SDA, HSS

MEDULIN, June 10 (Hina) - Croatian president Stipe Mesic refused to comment on a possible 'main coalition' between the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the Croatian Peasants' Party (HSS) as was announced. "If the SDP - HSS coalition is for the benefit of the Croatian state, it will be accepted by everybody," he said. Asked to comment on the possibility of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS) forming into a coalition in Split, Mesic said this was illogical because "the electoral campaign was not held on local issues where it would be logical for parties or persons to join in solving certain and concrete local problems. Rather, this electoral campaign was held on general national issues, globalisation," Mesic asserted. As regards an announced protest rally b the centre for the protection of the dignity of the Croatian Homeland Defence War at the beginning of the trial against general Mirko Norac in Rijeka on June 25, Mesic said "they and some others in this country should know that Croatia is a law-based state and nobody has the right to meddle in its justice system".
