SERB REFUGEES VISIT THEIR HOMES IN KNIN, VOTE IN LOCAL ELECTION

KNIN, VOTE IN LOCAL ELECTION KNIN, May 20 (Hina) - About 200 Serbs, who fled Croatia for Yugoslavia after the 1995 Croatian military operation Storm, arrived in their home town of Knin in southern Croatia on Sunday to visit their homes and participate in today's local election. The visit was organised by the association "Initiative for Knin" under the slogan "A Visit to Home Town in May". The refugees live in Yugoslavia but have permanent residence in Knin and neighbouring villages. Upon their arrival in Knin early this morning, the Serbs told reporters they had come not only to visit their homes and relatives but also to vote in the local election. They said they were not familiar with electoral slates and did not know for whom to vote yet but that they would decide about it once they saw the slates at polling stations. The Serbs arrived in Knin without any problems aboard three buses which were escorted from the border to the town

Most of them said they had already visited their homes several times. The refugees will return to Belgrade on Tuesday. (hina) rml
