ZAGREB, May 17 (Hina) - Prime Minister Ivica Racan announced at a government session on Thursday the government would meet next week to discuss a draft strategy of Croatia's development in the 21st century. He added that a debate on
salaries in the state administration and public services would take place very soon. A simulation of two regulations on coefficients (in the state administration and public services) is being carried out so that it could be established whether the base for the calculation of those salaries (4,551 kuna) will stay the same or be reduced, Racan said at the beginning of the session. Speculations about the reduction of salaries in the state administration and public services are unfounded, he said, urging all to be patient until the government debate. The correction of salaries is aimed at two things: the same pay for
the same amount of work and the elimination of numerous illegal
bonuses which were added to salaries depending on coincidence or
discretionary decisions.
The prime minister announced a debate on the strategy of Croatia's
development in the 21st century for next week, after this Sunday's
local election. Then we will be able to have a discussion void of the
skirmishes marking electoral campaigns, he said.
The government debate on the draft will mark the beginning of a
public debate on this issue, which should be completed by autumn,
when the government will formulate its stand and send the draft into
parliamentary debate.
