The Development Bank Steering Committee proposed at its regular
session in Paris on Friday that Dubrovnik host this year's annual
session of the Development Bank.
The meeting, which was to be held in Ohrid, Macedonia, has been
relocated due to the current situation in that country. Croatia was
originally to host the Bank's annual meeting in June 2003, the
Croatian Foreign Ministry said in a statement today.
Taking into account the new situation and its successful
cooperation with the Development Bank, the Croatian Government has
accepted this proposal and the session will be held on June 18/19
this year.
Attending today's meeting in Paris was Croatia's permanent
representative at the Council of Europe, Neven Madey.
This year's meeting of the Development Bank will gather more than
100 high officials - members of the Bank's Steering Committee and
Administrative Council as well as the Council of Europe Secretary-
General and representatives from several international financial
institutions. Development Bank representatives are expected to
meet Croatian state officials.
The Council of Europe's Development Bank has granted Croatia very
favourable loans for the reconstruction of its school and health
infrastructure as well as for refugee return projects and the
reconstruction of a Franciscan monastery in Dubrovnik.
