BELGRADE, May 4 (Hina) - The Serbian Parliament on Friday unanimously adopted a resolution on the situation in Kosovo and the position of "Serbs and other non-Albanian communities", in which they request "the establishment of
elementary security". The document asks of the UN Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) to, within a month, carry out an investigation into the disappearance of 1,300 Serbs, and inform their families and the public of the results of the investigation. BELGRADE, May 4 (Hina) - The Serbian Parliament on Friday
unanimously adopted a resolution on the situation in Kosovo and the
position of "Serbs and other non-Albanian communities", in which
they request "the establishment of elementary security".
The document asks of the UN Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) to, within a
month, carry out an investigation into the disappearance of 1,300
Serbs, and inform their families and the public of the results of
the investigation.
The resolution also stipulates that the setting up of "customs
points" has caused "additional anxiety" with Serbs in Kosovo, and
this UNMIK act has been described as "in violation of the UN
Security Council Resolution 1244".
The basic text of the legal framework for the temporary self-rule of
Kosovo was adopted several days ago by a working group comprising of
UNMIK, Albanian and Serb representatives. The document was not
issued it its entirety. The Albanian side has accepted it, but the
Serb side dismissed it because its suggested amendments were
refused.
In agreement with stances of Kosovo Serbs, the Serbian Parliament
said the document "does not give elementary guarantees of the
protection of the rights of national and ethnic communities".
Serbian Premier Zoran Djindjic described the situation in the
region as "dramatic".
"Every careless move leads to escalation, because we practically
already have a war situation in Macedonia, a war-peace situation in
Serbia's south, and a completely irregular situation in Kosovo with
armed troops and where peace reigns only for periods at a time,"
Djindjic told reporters after an extraordinary parliament
session.
