ZAGREB, April 22 (Hina) - Samir Ivosevic, one of the two accessories
to Vjeko Slisko's murder, on Sunday stood mute before an
investigating judge in Zagreb.
Ivosevic, whom police discovered as on of the accomplices of James
Capau, who killed Slisko in Zagreb a month ago, was arrested on
Saturday and kept in custody in order to be questioned by the
investigating judge.
Emir Midzic, the court-appointed defence lawyer of Ivosevic, told
reporters that his client was suspected of being an accessory to
first-grade murder which was committed for revenge or other out of
other base instincts.
The lawyer added that the State Prosecutor's Office was going to
launch an investigation and on Monday Ivosevic would be
interrogated by Judge Zoran Luburic who would be in charge of this
case.
Midzic said Ivosevic had so far had no criminal records, and his
client had also joined in defence of Croatia during the war for
independence.
Asked whether he knew anything about Marko Nikolic, whom police
described as the other accomplice and who is now on the run, Midzic
answered that all what he knew was what he read in the press.
On Saturday the police reported that they discovered two
accessories - Samir I. and Marko N. - to the murder of Vjeko Slisko.
The police assume that Marko Nikolic organised the assassination
and hired Capau, who lately included Ivosevic. According to the
police, Ivosevic followed Slisko on the day of murder and informed
Capau about his movements. Capau had allegedly promised to give a
huge pecuniary reward for that job.
A month ago, James Capau fired several bullets at Slisko in the
downtown Zagreb. In the showdown Slisko's bodyguard, Ivica Bertic,
wounded Capau as well. Both Capau and Slisko, who were in a critical
condition, were hospitalised. A few days later they died of wounds.
Bertic was nabbed several days after the showdown.
Slisko is believed to have been one of bosses in the Zagreb
underground. In the recent years he survived a few assassination
attempts. Slisko's family has offered a reward of one million kuna
for information about who ordered this contract killing.
The reward will be given to everybody who can provide the police
with information and evidence on the ground of which the police may
apprehend the mastermind behind Slisko's killing.
