and Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic on Friday dismissed
claims by the Montenegrin leadership saying the Serbian coalition
government and the Yugoslav Army were planning to destabilise
Montenegro after elections there were completed.
"We resolutely state that there is no truth in those claims," reads
a statement signed by Kostunica and Djindjic, issued from the
headquarters of the Yugoslav-Serbian political coalition DOS.
The two officials claim the Yugoslav Army "is not an instrument of
political pressure" and it is therefore "inappropriate to use it to
intimidate voters."
Kostunica and Djindjic encourage Montenegrin citizens "to chose
their own path alone," adding, however, they would be "very
satisfied is Montenegro chose to stay in the joint state with
Serbia" in which case they would be "ready to start talks on the
reorganisation of the federal state."
