STATE PROSECUTOR RESPONDS TO WEEKLY'S MAFIA ALLEGATIONS

ZAGREB, April 10 (Hina) - Commenting on an article alleging collusion between the State Prosecutor's Office and the mob, State Prosecutor Radovan Ortynski said on Tuesday that not one document found in the flat of a recently murdered mobster was in the hands of the prosecution alone. Nacional weekly claimed in its last issue that Dunja Pavlicek- Patak, the prosecutor in a trial to a group of Zagreb mobsters, or someone close to her had given Vjeko Slisko, assassinated in a recent mob showdown in downtown Zagreb, confidential judicial documents. Slisko, known as the poker machine king, was claimed to have been the leader of one of Zagreb's underworld gangs at war with the gang of Zlatko Bagaric, who is currently detained in the Zagreb county prison. Nacional also said Ortynski and the State Prosecutor's Office had entered a partnership with one criminal gang to destroy another. The state prosecutor said today the documents found at Slisko's flat were also contained in court files and were at the disposal of the defence. He added Nacional had thus far published a series of articles with false or only partly true information which were detrimental to the Zagreb mobsters trial. (hina) ha sb
