ZAGREB, April 8 (Hina) - A deficit in the balance-of-payment current account in the last year was rather smaller than the expected five (5) percent of the Gross Domestic Product. This was mostly so thanks to the improvement in the
tourist turnover last summer. According to the latest data issued by the Croatian National Bank (HNB), it was assessed after the national Statistical Office reviewed figures in the foreign trade that the said deficit accounted for lass than three percent of the GDP in 2000. According to the available figures, Croatia saw a 3.7% rise in the GDP last year. In 2000, a deficit in the foreign commerce was some 3.5 billion dollars, or at the approximately same level as in the year before.
