ZAGREB, March 9 (Hina) - Croatian banks have recorded an intensive growth in both foreign and domestic currency deposits, as well as a revived loan activity. Foreign currency deposits totalled 48.9 billion kuna (approx. $6 billion) at
the end of January, a 28.2 percent increase as against a year before, the central bank said on Friday. Kuna deposits totalled 8.6 billion kuna (approx. $1 billion), a 52 percent increase as against January 2000. These strong growth rates have resulted in a mild growth in the share kuna deposits account for in total savings, in which foreign currency deposits prevail with some 85 percent. The loan revival which began in the last trimester of 2000 continued this year, with a 62 billion kuna (approx. $7.6 billion) credit volume in business banks, a 10.7 percent increase as against January 2000.
