ZAGREB, Feb 23 (Hina) - Croatia's state budget registered a total of 44.65 billion kuna (approximately 5.3 billion US dollars) as the revenue and 50.78 billion kuna ($6 billion) of the expenditure last year. Thus, 2000 ended with a
deficit of 6.13 billion kuna (some $72 million), which accounted for about 3.9 percent of the Gross Domestic Product, according to provisional figures released by the Finance Ministry.

year. Thus, 2000 ended with a deficit of 6.13 billion kuna (some $72
million), which accounted for about 3.9 percent of the Gross
Domestic Product, according to provisional figures released by the
Finance Ministry.#L#
Last year's revenue of 44.65 billion kuna fell by 3.7 percent as
against 1999, while the total expenditure rose by 3.9 percent to
50.77 billion kuna.
The deficit was covered by taking loans at home (2.18 billion kuna
or $26 million) and abroad 10.6 billion or $1.26 billion).
As regards the revenue, tax receipts rose by 4.2 percent to 39.9
billion kuna last year as against 1999.
The yield on capital dropped by half to 3.1 billion kuna, owing to
the postponement of the further privatisation of the Croatian
Telecom (HT).
The revenue from the Value Added Tax came to 21.8 billion kuna,
climbing by 10.1 percent as against 1999.
Last year's proceeds from tariffs for the import fell by 11.5
percent.
Regarding the public spending, the means earmarked for salaries
from the state budget increased by six percent to 15.57 billion
kuna.
In 2000 the Government had to ensure 4.1 billion kuna ($48 million)
to settle debts and obligations the former authorities incurred in
previous years.
The subsidies increased by 11.2 percent to 3.8 billion kuna.
