According to the law, out of the 64 questions in census
questionnaires, citizens do not have to reply only to questions
about their religion and nationality, the Bureau's director, Ivan
Rusan, said.
He stressed all data will be treated as an official secret and may be
used exclusively for statistics, without any possibility of
abuse.
Census for Croatian citizens working or temporarily residing
abroad began through embassies and consulates on March 1 and will
last until the end of the month.
The census is carried out in accordance to recommendations of the
United Nations and the EU bureau of statistics so data could be
compared to that in other countries.
The census process will cost around 142 million kuna (about US$17.2
million) and the first results will be presented by the end of May.
