CROATIAN PARLIAMENT SPEAKER RECEIVES OSCE CHAIRMAN

ZAGREB, Feb 19 (Hina) - Croatian Parliament speaker Zlatko Tomcic on Monday received Romania's Foreign Minister and chairman of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Dan Mirce Geoan. Tomcic stressed the successful cooperation with the OSCE Mission to Croatia and expressed interest in an assessment on Croatia's progress which will be reviewed in OSCE's report. Geoan said Croatia had very good chances of a quick progress on its way towards Euro-Atlantic associations, although the issue of the national television remains open, as well as the issues of the return of refugees in which, he said, other international institutions could get involved, providing financial assistance, the Parliament reported. Tomcic showed concrete data on the number of refugees and displaced persons, as well as those who have returned to Croatia and the Bosnian Serb entity of Republika Srpska, adding return was no longer

Geoan said Croatia had very good chances of a quick progress on its way towards Euro-Atlantic associations, although the issue of the national television remains open, as well as the issues of the return of refugees in which, he said, other international institutions could get involved, providing financial assistance, the Parliament reported. Tomcic showed concrete data on the number of refugees and displaced persons, as well as those who have returned to Croatia and the Bosnian Serb entity of Republika Srpska, adding return was no longer a political, but rather financial problem. He pointed out the problem of unsolved ownership relations, which cannot be solved without serious involvement on the part of Republika Srpska authorities. Deputy speaker Zdravko Tomac also attended the meeting, and informed the OSCE chairman about circumstances of a recent protest rally in Split. A part of Croatian citizens feel the international community is treating Croats in Croatia unfairly, as is Croats in Bosnia- Herzegovina, with double standards being applied, Tomac asserted. Geoan replied there is no question about double standards, as the standards are always equal -- the European ones -- adding that in order to complete the process Croatia has begun a lot of time and effort is needed, for which the Croatian citizens and authorities will be commended in the end. The Split rally was organised by the main national headquarters for the protection of the dignity of Croatia's war of independence last Sunday to protest against an arrest warrant issued for Mirko Norac, a retired general suspected of war crimes against civilians in central Croatia in 1991.
