ZAGREB, Feb 16 (Hina) - A final decision on the Croatian parliament's House of Counties and the date of local elections will be passed in several days, after consultations within the parties of the ruling coalition, Prime Minister
Racan told reporters Friday evening after talks with presidents of the six parties of the coalition. According to the Prime Minister, the talks were on some moves in economy - the central issue of the government's work as well as on Croatia's strategic goal - to be ready to enter the European Union by late 2006. A great majority of the citizens, including those participating in protests held over the last several day, wants a better and safer life, is interested in and supports that strategic goal, namely the acceptance of economic and legal standards of the European Union, Racan stressed, adding that such development of events was not good for certain organisers of the protests.

coalition.
According to the Prime Minister, the talks were on some moves in
economy - the central issue of the government's work as well as on
Croatia's strategic goal - to be ready to enter the European Union

protests held over the last several day, wants a better and safer

Racan stressed, adding that such development of events was not good
for certain organisers of the protests.
He said that in the current situation, government wanted to be
responsible and contribute to the calming of the situation.
The Prime Minister said that harsh insults and words of hatred,
present in every day political life, were causing great damage to
Croatia.
The Prime Minister also pointed to negative consequences of such
behaviour. He stressed that in the upcoming several days it would be
crucial to show a general democratic awareness.
