Krakow Tuesday retired Croatian army general Mirko Norac has
forwarded the conditions of handing himself over to authorities to
the wrong address when he sent them to Racan, because the Croatian
government does not solve issues under the jurisdiction of the
justice system.
In its recent issue, the Nacional weekly ran a story General Norac
sent Prime Minister Racan four conditions of his surrender and
appearance before a court. The conditions are that he be granted
bail, that he not be extradited to the Hague-based international
war crimes tribunal, that witnesses who accused him be herd again
and that Colonel Milan Canic be released from custody.
Racan told reporters in Krakow he doubted the conditions were
formulated by General Norac himself.
"I do not know whether these requests are those of General Norac or
people surrounding him, but this remains to be seen," Racan
stressed.
General Norac and Colonel Canic have been accused of having ordered
the elimination of groups of citizens of Serb nationality in
Pazariste, Lipova Glavica and Karlobag (central Croatia) in
October 1991, during Croatia's defence war.
Canic has been in custody since February 7, while an arrest warrant
was issued for Norac.
